The Germans have presented a sporty GTI modification of the updated compact hatchback for the European market.
Volkswagen has unveiled a sportier version of the updated Polo hatchback for the European market. The modification under the designation GTI, traditionally the most powerful and fastest in the lineup, debuted two months after the premiere of the standard model.
Like the regular Polo, the GTI variant received the look of the eighth-generation Golf family, including redesigned LED headlights, visually interconnected by an LED strip along the entire length of the grille. At the same time, the sports version can be distinguished from the standard hatchback thanks to special wheels, red brake calipers, GTI emblems and twin tailpipes.
As for the interior, the front panel of the car is made with a combination of red and black. The driver has access to a virtual instrument panel and an 8-inch touchscreen display of the infotainment complex (9.2-inch – for an additional charge). As an option, sports seats are offered at the front with reinforced lateral support.
Technically, the GTI version differs from the standard variants by a stiffer suspension with reduced ground clearance, as well as an electronically controlled front differential.
The updated Volkswagen Polo GTI is equipped with the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol turbo engine developing 207 hp. and 320 Nm of torque. The engine works in tandem with a 7-speed dual-clutch robotic gearbox. The hatchback is capable of accelerating from zero to “hundreds” in 6.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is 240 km per hour.
