Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the S680 Guard 4Matic armored sedan with maximum ballistic protection.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an armored version of the new generation S-Class flagship sedan (W223). The vehicle designated S680 Guard 4Matic has the maximum level of ballistic protection for passenger cars of the VPAM VR10 standard.
This class implies the use of armor of 18-23 mm, as well as 10-layer heavy glasses. The design is able to protect the driver and passengers not only from bursts from the Kalashnikov assault rifle, but also withstand the hit of armor-piercing and armor-piercing incendiary bullets, including those fired from the Dragunov sniper rifle (SVD).
The sedan received special armored glass with a thickness of 10 centimeters. They have a hydraulic drive, thanks to which they will continue to function even after a complete failure of the on-board electronics in the event of an attack. Special Michelin PAX tires with run-flat technology will allow you to drive at least 30 kilometers after breaking them. The equipment of the car also provides for a built-in oxygen tank, which will provide an autonomous supply of air to the passenger compartment in an emergency.
Due to the armor and new equipment, the mass of the new Mercedes S-Class has grown to 4.2 tons. In this regard, the engineers had to significantly strengthen the suspension and brakes, as well as reconfigure the transmission and steering.
The Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard 4Matic is powered by the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine previously seen in the new Mercedes-Maybach S680. The motor develops 612 hp. and 830 Nm of torque. Acceleration time from zero to “hundreds” is not named. It is only known that the maximum speed of the armored car is forcibly limited to 190 km per hour.
In Europe, prices for the new Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard 4Matic start at 547.4 thousand euros. The production of one such car takes at least 50 days.
