Kia has revealed the specifications of the fifth-generation Sportage crossover. The novelty received a 1.6-liter TGDI engine with 180 horsepower. The unit works in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed “robot”.
Also included in the range of engines is a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 183 horsepower. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the company said that the car will receive several hybrid versions at once. However, the Koreans promise to reveal details about these modifications later.
The new Kia Sportage received a McPherson-type front suspension and a four-link rear suspension. For the first time on this model, the Terrain Mode function has become available to the driver, which allows the electronics to apply the optimal operating modes of the engine, steering, transmission and other systems for driving on different types of surfaces.
Sportage has been equipped with advanced driver assistance systems. Among them: advanced cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, a parking assist function, and an emergency braking system that can recognize cars, pedestrians and cyclists. The crossover will be offered with two wheelbase options (standard and extended version). The Kia Sportage will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
The appearance of the car is no longer a secret. Kia revealed what the new Sportage will look like in early June this year. The design of the car is reminiscent of the EV6 electric car and the new Sorento. So, the car received frontal optics with complex graphics, boomerang-shaped diode daytime running lights, new lights and a modified radiator grille.
As for the interior, the new Sportage has got a digital dashboard and a huge multimedia screen, which are combined into a single unit – in the style of the new generation Sorento. The traditional transmission selector has been replaced with a rotating “washer” that is responsible for changing the gearbox operating modes.
The exact date of the start of sales of new items is still unknown. The Koreans promise to begin accepting orders for the crossover around the world by the end of this year.
