Opel has officially unveiled the new (second) generation Mokka subcompact crossover, which will be sold under the Vauxhall brand in some markets.
The new body of the Opel Mokka 2021 differs from its predecessor in a more progressive exterior design. The front of the model is made in the new corporate style of Vizor. For the first time, the Germans showed it on the GT X Experimental concept, while other cars of the company will also “try on” it after Mokka.
The front of the crossover is characterized by the presence of a small radiator grille and visually aligned headlights, the latter being notable for LED DRL “eyebrows”. From the outside, such a design solution resembles a helmet visor, which, in fact, explains the name of the new style. In terms of interior, the new Opel Mokka 2021 is the first model of the German brand with a fully digital Pure Panel cockpit. The latter consists of two displays located under one glass. Interestingly, there is a 12.0-inch screen in front of the driver, which acts as a digital instrument.
For the needs of the multimedia system, a smaller display is given – by 7.0 or 10.0 ″ (depending on the configuration). The entertainment complex supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces, plus the OpelConnect service is available, which provides real-time navigation. The developers did not completely abandon the analog keys, therefore, the SUV interior retained several physical buttons to control the most demanded functions. Among other features of the car, it is worth noting the presence of wireless charging for a smartphone.
Opel Mokka 2 of the second generation is built on the basis of the new CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform from the PSA concern. This “bogie” made it possible to lighten the structure by 120 kg (compared to its predecessor), while the rigidity of the body increased by 30%. It is reported that the reduction in weight not only positively affected the economy, but also added fervor to the car’s handling. The overall length of the new model Opel Mokka 2021 model year was reduced by 125 mm – to 4,150, and the wheelbase became literally a couple of millimeters larger (2,257), the width added 10 mm. All this made it possible to make the proportions of the compact crossover more sporty.
The new Mokka became the first Opel model to receive an all-electric power plant. By the way, the SUV is making its debut on the market in the “green” version of the Mokka-e, which is supposed to have an electric motor with a capacity of 136 hp. (260 Nm) and a traction battery with a capacity of 50 kWh. In the Normal driving preset, the electric car can travel up to 322 km without recharging (according to the WLTP cycle). Activating Eco mode slightly increases the range, while Sport mode makes the car more driving at the expense of the range.
Note that to conserve battery power, the maximum speed of the electric Opel Mokka-e is electronically limited to 150 km / h. You can recharge a dead battery from a 100-kilowatt terminal to 80% in just 30 minutes. You can also recharge the electric car in other ways, including from a regular outlet. In terms of technological equipment, the new Mokka again made a qualitative step forward. From now on, the car can boast of adaptive matrix headlights IntelliLux, all-round cameras, advanced cruise control with Stop & Go function, lane tracking system and much more. Acceptance of orders for the electric Opel Mokka-e started at the end of summer 2020, but the first customers began to receive their cars only at the beginning of two thousand twenty-first. Then we should expect the appearance of standard petrol and diesel modifications. No pricing information for the crossover is available yet.
